The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an autonomous body established in 1974 within the framework of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development to implement an international energy program among 26 of the OECD's 30 member countries. This latest IEA report examines the main lighting end-use sectors--commercial buildings, households, industrial lighting, outdoor lighting and vehicle lighting--and demonstrates that more cost- effective and higher-efficiency alternative energy choices exist which could be deployed very quickly were the current market barriers addressed, leading to stronger and cleaner economies without diminishing quality of life. The report finds that policies to bring about this change have been tested and shown to work, and explains how and why more comprehensive and vigorous implementation of these policies in each economy and lighting sector is needed.
